A story ~ Yokohama City of Lights

Both of us knew that this was going to happen, but it was not like we were going to say anything till now. You are standing there across the bridge, too far for me to hold you, and too close for me to ignore you. The snowflakes float down, and scatter around us like frozen tears afraid to melt away. They shiver with the thought that innocence cannot stay crystallized forever.

If this was under different circumstances, I'd feel your soft gloves lock their tiny fingers with mine, I'd feel you pull me to the edge of this bridge and you'd gaze at me with the City of Lights sparkling in your eyes. When you smiled at me, I would have smiled too, thankful for a new year when we could spend another first snow together.

The only commonality between then and now is that we've been, and we still somewhat are, awkwardly inseparable. It made no difference that both of us knew what we are thinking now, just as we've would've knew back then. Except, in this instance, I didn't want to admit that the words that I said were the ones you knew were coming.

Even now, our hearts were still tangled up like puppets on tattered strings from meters away. We each were trying to break free but hurting the other one in the process, which is why, I had to say those words, you see?

I know you are watching my back now as I walk into the white listlessness of these snow-covered street lamps. I know that after this you will gaze over the bridge and stroll away like you used to. I know like the first snow, you will cry the first tears of many that will fall helplessly without the person who promised to catch them once they did. I know your gaze will hold a cold, frigid composure, expressionless to any one who walks by. And I know that for the last time, you will stand in the middle of the park we used to walk in and listen to the traffic buzz away under the old hippodrome, with the City of Lights sparkling in those eyes.

While listening to this song:

You could look at.....a city skyline at night or the heart of your downtown.

You could be with.....a person/people who don't know how much you love them.

You could do something.....allows both/all of you to stroll with each other slowly in the nighttime.

You could eat or drink.....freshly cooked hand held food that is enjoyable to eat. (Bonus if it's from a food truck :))

You could remember that.....there is heavy gravity and elegant beauty found in even the simplest moments with the one(s) that you love. This makes leaving them hard, but sometimes necessary. It depends on whether the memories you made were mostly good or mostly painful.

[Apologies for the unavailable video, I am not able to get it working. The song is on Youtube though if you want to listen to it.]

  1. Your writing is so amazing - it vividly sparks my imagination and makes me feel emotions I would not otherwise feel because I can imagine myself in the situations or moods that you describe beautifully.

The song goes nicely along with the writing you wrote - reading it while listening to it is a fun experience!

    :)
